The Mauch Twins' mother was Dorothy.Their ambitious stage mother had the twins performing from age 3 at benefits and parties. Their father was a railroad agent.Billy was cast as young Anthony Adverse (1936) because he resembled the film's star Fredric March . Bobby was his stand-in and supposedly fooled director Mervyn LeRoy at times by switching places.Billy was born ten minutes before Bobby. Billy is left-handed and Bobby is right-handed. Their last name rhymes with "talk".Warner Bros. originally wanted only to sign Billy, but Mrs. Mauch insisted both boys be signed up or she would pitch Bobby to a rival studio.
